I have been doing a great deal of reading and educating myself on spiritual enlightenment, and how there are healers in the world that can actually change the way a person thinks and lives their life. Everyone in this world is hurting over something in their lives, and it is a matter of how we deal with these hurts that affects our day to day life. As you know, I have taught exercise since I was 17 years old and I work out six days a week. For me, working out is like brushing my teeth. I do not even think about it, I just do it. There are many individuals in our society that also engage in some sort of exercise regime every week. It is very important for us to work on our bodies, not just to look good, but to be healthier and prevent obesity and disease. Why isn’t it important for us to work on our mind and spirit? Our mind controls all of our thoughts, which turn into feelings in our body. If the feelings in our body are bad, this will create stress in our bodies and our souls. Stress can cause disease and it is a domino effect.
Why don’t people worry about working out their minds the same way as their bodies? As I continue to grow and learn more about spiritual enlightenment, I have learned that I need to be as disciplined and consistent with my mind training as I am with my body. You are probably wondering how to work out your mind, so I will explain. I am always talking about meditation and yoga, two practices that require you to silence your mind. When your mind is silenced, your spirit can be heard and guide you with positive and loving thoughts. It is very difficult to learn how to silence your mind. It takes practice, consistency and dedication on a daily basis. You can start out with five or ten minutes a day by turning on soothing music that you find relaxing, then just close your eyes and breathe. Your mind will try to make you think about chores, kids, work, whatever, but you need to push the thoughts away and listen to the music. There are also guided meditations available, where someone talks to you and tells you what to do. These are great as well.
Our minds are constantly making us think, plan, react, schedule, worry, and contemplate what is going on in our lives. Our spirit wants us to heal, relax, feel joyful, find peace, love and accept others, and be grateful for our lives. It is possible to lead a live that is more spirit-centered and less mind-centered. All it takes is practice and focus. I have been doing this now for six months and have just recently reached a place where I am able to control each and every thought that I allow to enter my mind. Yes, I am still human and will have sad, negative, or stressful thoughts, but I am able to handle them differently than before. I allow myself to feel a negative emotion, I express to myself why I am feeling this, and I let it go. It is that easy! I then let my inner voice that resides in my spirit tell my mind that I am happy and at peace and do not allow myself to continue to feel bad.
Some of you are thinking right now that this is ridiculous. If it is so easy to be happy, then why isn’t everyone happy? Why isn’t everyone healthy and fit, when it is so simple to eat clean, nutritious food and exercise? Why is our country so obese? In order to be fit and healthy, you must motivate yourself with dedication and consistency to improve your health through nutrition and exercise. The same applies to your mind. If you learn how to control your thoughts through daily meditation and relaxation, it will happen. Your entire life will change if you can dedicate yourself to be consistent with whatever it is you want to accomplish for at least 90 days. It takes 90 days to break a pattern and change something that you want to change. Try it. What do you have to lose? You have everything to gain. Commit to silencing your mind for 5-60 minutes a day for 90 days, and you will not be sorry. Next month we will talk about EGO vs SPIRIT. I can’t wait. 🙂
